Tell people that you are a missionary in India or Africa and they probably won't act surprised. Tell them you work in Japan and they tend to ask why!
At the end of the Second World War, General MacArthur called for a thousand Protestant missionaries to Japan. WEC's work began as a response to that call when Lon and Yvonne Fulton arrived in Japan on February the 23rd, 1950.

Moving to a new country as a missionary involves many changes, and orientation of new workers is essential to help them find a safe passage through this maze of 'newness', and to build a life in Japan, where they are able to minister to others.

Translated highlights from a paper prepared by the leader of the SFDD, the WEC-related church in Japan, to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of WEC working in Japan.
