April Prayer Points, News and Article from Wec Japan
Prayer Points: Kaori Church has its Easter Picnic after church on Sun. 27th April. This is a gentle outreach event, in a park, for Christians and non-Christians to meet together. In particular, we hope that some from the mothers and toddlers group will come with their whole family. We will have our annual field conference in early May. Please pray as we meet together as a team to share and discuss - that it would be a great time of seeking God and encouraging each other. Chiemi Saiyama-san (Japan) from Kusatsu Church is preparing to go to India as a missionary. Please pray for her preparation and deputation time, that God would lead her and give wisdom to know the way forward. Comings and Goings: This month both Jocelyn (New Zealand) and Jurgen (Germany) return from Furlough. Please pray for them as they settle back into life in Japan again. Deborah also returns from a short break in Singapore. The Yim family are taking a short break at home. New Missionary to WEC Japan – Carla arrives from Brazil to begin serving God in Japan. Please pray for her in all aspects of moving, settling in and learning language. Main Article: A Time and A Season. What is God planning? This is the question every Christian wants the answer to. What is God planning? What is God doing in this time right now? Even though we are not always sure, God knows his times and seasons, he knows his plans and purposes, and is working them out, even before we think to ask the questions. As Daniel said "Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.” [Dan 2:20b, 21] And so here in WEC Japan, we, like Daniel, are giving God praise for who he is and for what he is doing, here in Japan. Japan is hard soil. Leading people to Jesus is neither easy nor quick, but they are coming. The Lord is reaching out and bringing in his harvest. Christianity has had a fairly harsh history with Japan – facing much persecution over the centuries, but still the gospel is being shared. Still the Japanese are finding God’s grace. And God is still sending his people to these shores. He has not forgotten the wonderful people of this island nation. The last 18 months have seen an increase in workers in WEC Japan, with 5 new missionaries being sent from England, Australia and Singapore. What wonderful and encouraging news this is. On top of this, another worker, Carla, is due to arrive in early May from Brazil, and several other new workers are preparing to join the team here in Japan over the next year or so. So we are left with the question – what is God doing? It is a hopeful question. One that looks to the future. God is increasing his presence, sending harvesters to his harvest field to join with those who are already here. What does God have planned? Only he knows that – but we can be assured that is it something good. It is an exciting place to be. Watching God at work in both WEC Japan, and the Japanese church. As William Carey once said “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.” So please continue to join with us and the cause of the gospel in Japan. Article by Ben Hallam |
